About Us

Bank History

  • As mentioned in the British Encyclopedia, the birth of Co-operative Farming was established way back in 1371 in Ethiopia which gave birth to the revolutionary idea of Cooperative societies. On 8th May 1905, for the first time in India, a Co-Operative Society was established in KANGINAHALA of GADAG district, which created a new era in Indian History. A Similar cooperative society, with the same intention and dedication, was needed in Shikaripura.
  • On 26 October 1965, under the leadership of Sr Sri S.V.HALAPPA, THE URBAN CO-OPERATIVE BANK LTD., SHIKARIPURA was established. Sri S.V.HALAPPA was elected as the first president of the bank whereas Sri H.DANDIYAPPA was the bank's first Honorary Secretary to facilitate common people with benefits of the bank. Common people were included as shareholders with share value of Rs.10/- per share and the capital was raised.

    Release of loan

    The proceeds of the loan amount shall be paid to the dealer of the vehicle from whom the borrower intends to purchase the vehicle, duly debiting the margin amount to the party’s SB/CA, getting a letter to this effect.

    In cases of purchasing used vehicles, proceeds of the loan amount shall be paid to the owner of the vehicle.

In case the borrower fails to produce the insurance policy the bank shall arrange to get the insurance coverage for the vehicle by debiting the loan account.

    The borrower shall get the mortgaged property insured against fire and other risks and the premium has to be paid by the borrower. Such fire policy shall be in the name of the borrower with a bank clause and renewed every year and if the borrower fails to do so the bank is empowered to debit the members’ account and renew the insurance.
